● Songbai Natural Trail

The Songbai Natural Trail was an important ancient salt-carrying path before Sun Moon Lake was dammed. A sculpture symbolizing the salt carriers is placed near the lakeside section of the trail. The entrance is located between the Wenwu Temple and the Peacock Garden, with the trail stretching approximately 600 meters in length. From the winding path at an altitude of 835 meters, you can reach spots such as the W?ǎ? Vantage Point, the Forest Observation Deck, the Cypress Forest, the Camphor Forest, the Reed Marsh, and the Magnolia Garden.

● Shuǐwātóu Natural Trail

Located between Dazhu Lake and Sun Moon Village, the trail is about 500 meters long and is built as an elevated boardwalk. Along the way, you’ll pass through a bamboo grove of Phyllostachys edulis, with beautiful scenery and abundant native trees and ferns. There are several Litsea glutinosa trees along the trail that bloom with beautiful white flowers in summer. It is said that this place was once known as the “Toad Cave,” where after heavy rains, the path would be covered with toads, leading later generations to call it the “Water Frog Head.” A bronze sculpture of “Frogs Stacked Like a Pagoda” has been installed by the lake, vividly illustrating the origin of the place’s name and also serving as an indicator for water level fluctuations.
