Glowworm Cave is the most popular of the Waitomo Caves, attracting around half a million visitors each year. The cave is rich in stalactites, stalagmites, and the unique spectacle created by glowworms, offering an underground view reminiscent of stars twinkling in the night sky. Exploring Glowworm Cave takes a total of forty-five minutes. During this fascinating visit, tourists walk, take a boat ride, and then walk again, with the glowworm portion lasting about ten minutes.

The glowworms that light up the darkness of the cave do so to attract prey. They are a species unique to New Zealand, with each insect colony potentially comprising several million individuals.
