The Fuziyan Site is a recently discovered ancient cultural site, located at the confluence of the Xiangjiang River and the Li River near Qifeng Town in Yanshan District, Guilin. The site spans the Late Neolithic Age and the Shang-Zhou period, and consists of cave ruins, foothill ruins, mountaintop ruins, and slope ruins. It can be imagined that humans at the time lived in a scattered, multi-point settlement pattern centered around one location.

From 2014 to 2016, the Institute of Archaeology of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the Guangxi Institute of Cultural Relics Protection and Archaeology, the Guilin Zengpiyan Site Museum, and the Guilin Institute of Cultural Relics Protection and Archaeology jointly conducted three archaeological excavations at the Fuziyan Site.

At the foothill and slope ruins, through deep digging with shovels and gentle sweeping with bamboo brooms, remains such as house foundations, burials, ash pits, postholes, and drainage ditches were gradually revealed. At the same time, artifacts including perforated stone axes, jade tubes, jade bracelets, concave-edge stone adzes, stone axes, stone arrowheads, spinning whorls, and open-mouthed jars were unearthed.

These discoveries thrilled archaeologists—the richness of the cultural remains, the abundance of artifacts, and the long duration of settlement at the Fuziyan Site have filled a historical gap in Guilin’s prehistoric to Shang-Zhou periods, serving as the only material evidence for studying the region’s culture during that time.

In 2019, the Fuziyan Site was included in the eighth batch of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units.
