The Banana Mound Shell Mound Site

The Banana Mound Shell Mound Site is located on a coastal mound approximately 2 kilometers southwest of Danliao Village, Xiniujiao Town, Qinnan District, Qinzhou City, at the confluence of the Danliao River and Xiabu River. It lies about 20 kilometers from downtown Qinzhou. This coastal mound stretches roughly 100 meters from north to south and around 80 meters from east to west. Its surface still retains a shell deposit layer that is 0.5 to 1 meter thick, covering an area of over 2,000 square meters. Archaeologists have collected both chipped and polished stone tools here, mostly sharp oyster scrapers, as well as chopping tools, scrapers, stone axes, and stone balls, all of which are relatively crudely made. It is a Neolithic shell mound site where fishing and hunting were the main means of subsistence, dating back approximately 10,000 years.
