Standard Seawall

The Standard Seawall in Qinzhou City, Guangxi, was first built in 1999 and stretches over 20 kilometers. Before the seawall was constructed, along Qinzhou’s 520-kilometer coastline, tidal flats spanning more than 80,000 kilometers yielded almost no crops. After its completion, the seawall's resilience to typhoons and storm surges was improved to withstand events occurring once every 50 years. Over the past three years, agricultural development within the protected area has been robust. In Qinnan District alone, farmers have developed 4,000 hectares of shrimp farming, raised 130,000 ducks, and the average annual net income per aquaculture household has reached 4,500 yuan. Local farmers regard the seawall as their “Great Wall on the Sea” and joyfully refer to it as the “People’s Seawall,” “Happiness Seawall,” and “Prosperity Seawall.” Additionally, the 5.4-meter-high and 3-meter-wide seawall also serves as a “Seaside Scenic Seawall,” offering views of the ocean, mangroves, shrimp ponds, and duck farms. Recently, the second phase of the Qinzhou Standard Seawall project, involving the extension of over 20 kilometers, has commenced construction.
