Former Residence of General Wei Guoqing

The Former Residence of General Wei Guoqing is a cultural tourism attraction and a classic red tourism site.

A classic red tourism site in Guangxi. Located in Longying Village, Longying Township, 16 kilometers southwest of Donglan County, beside the former National Highway 323. This is the former residence of the late national leader and founding general of the People's Republic — General Wei Guoqing.

In 1928, at the age of 15, Wei joined the revolution here and the following year took part in the Baise Uprising led by Deng Xiaoping, Zhang Yunyi, and Wei Baqun. In 1930, he followed the main force of the Red Seventh Army northward to Jiangxi and later joined the Central Red Army on the world-famous Long March. He achieved remarkable feats during the War of Resistance Against Japan and the Liberation War. In 1950, at the invitation of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, he led a military advisory group to Vietnam to assist the Vietnamese People’s Army in the war against France, personally directing the famous Battle of Dien Bien Phu, earning deep affection from the Vietnamese people. In 1955, he was awarded the rank of General by the State Council. After 1977, he served continuously as a leader in China’s Party, government, and military until his passing in 1989. The residence is surrounded by mountains, with five peaks standing in a row, the terrain resembling an open palm with its back against four hills and facing a slope. There are currently two exhibition rooms in the residence, displaying over 100 items, including personal belongings used by General Wei during his lifetime, as well as photos documenting his military career and major state activities after the liberation. Visiting the residence allows one to deeply feel the boundless loyalty of a communist soldier, and to witness how a proletarian revolutionary, outstanding military commander, and political leader transformed from a village cattle herder into a prominent army general and leader of the Republic.
