Guigang Museum

Guigang Museum is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

The Guigang City Museum is situated at the southwest corner of the intersection of Guilin Road and Xianyi Road in Guigang City. It originated as the Guixian Cultural Relics Management Office, established in 1984. In 1988, the county-level Guigang City Museum was established, and in 1996, it was promoted to a prefecture-level Guigang City Museum. It is a comprehensive state-owned museum and is directly affiliated with the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region’s Department of Culture, Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television as a full-budget, first-tier public institution.

The Guigang City Museum currently houses a collection of 1,910 sets of cultural relics, with an actual physical collection totaling 4,672 items. Among these, there are 773 sets of precious cultural relics and 1,137 sets of general collections. The majority of the museum's relics were unearthed across the city, primarily from Han Dynasty tombs, with Han Dynasty pottery and bronze ware being the main highlights. Among the Han Dynasty relics, pottery buildings are especially notable—for example, the Eastern Han Dynasty Six-Sided Pottery Castle and the Eastern Han Dynasty Three-Sheep Combined Pottery House—which resemble architectural models and reflect the rich daily life of the Han era. Bronze ware in the collection, such as the Han Dynasty Bronze Lamp with Beast-Shaped Base and Handle, and the Warring States Period Bronze Sword with Human-Face Pattern and Bow-Shaped Hilt, still bear traces of their ancient past. In addition, exquisitely crafted agate, precious blue jade lions, and noble terracotta figurines of Hu people are also among the representative items in the collection.

The new venue of the Guigang City Museum was completed and opened to the public on December 27, 2014. It covers an area of 3,847.65 square meters, with a total construction area of 10,000 square meters, including an exhibition area of 4,800 square meters. The museum hosts three permanent exhibitions: “Pearl of the Xijiang River – Treasures of the Ancient County – The Historical and Cultural Relics of Guigang,” “Scenery and Customs of Xunyu – The Ethnic and Folk Cultural Relics of Guigang,” and “Reconstructed Room of Tomb No.1 at Luobowan.” Additionally, within the site of the First Congress of the Communist Party of Guangxi, which is a Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Patriotic Education Base, there is another permanent exhibition titled “Monument of History – The Revolutionary History Exhibition of Guixian.” The museum also utilizes temporary exhibition halls to present diverse cultural content to the public. The museum is open to the public free of charge, operating 305 days a year, and receives an average of approximately 250,000 visitors annually.

The Guigang City Museum is continuously improving and has gradually become a window for understanding Guigang culture, a sanctuary for exploring history, seeking knowledge, experiencing beauty, and cultivating refined tastes, as well as an important platform for patriotic education that inspires love and dedication to one’s hometown.
