In 1946, the Central Committee sent Liao Lianyuan, a native of Guigang, back to Guangxi to mobilize the masses, carry out guerrilla warfare, disrupt enemy lines in the rear, and coordinate with the operations of the Chinese People's Liberation Army on the front lines, in preparation for the liberation of Guangxi. After returning to his hometown, Liao Lianyuan immediately began revolutionary activities in rural areas such as Dakai, Zhongli, Qingfeng, and Miancun in Guixian County. He established party and youth league organizations, poor and hired peasant groups, and anti–“Three Levies” groups, and on September 29, 1947, announced the establishment of the “Chinese People’s Liberation Army Dakai Column,” launching an armed uprising. Since that day happened to be the Mid-Autumn Festival, it was called the “Zhongqiu Uprising.”

Liao Lianyuan, also known as Shigang, was born in November 1912 in Qishi Township, Guixian County, and was of Zhuang ethnicity. He joined the Communist Party of China in November 1936.

At the end of 1937, after graduating from Guilin High School, he was assigned by the Party organization to study at the Yan'an Anti-Japanese Military and Political University. He once served as a cadre and special agent of the Security Department of the Shaan-Gan-Ning Border Region Government, a researcher at the Yan'an Marxist-Leninist Institute and the Central Research Institute, and the Party branch secretary of the Third Department of the Central Party School.
