Statue of Ouyang Hai

The Statue of Ouyang Hai is a cultural relic protection unit of Guiyang County and a classic red tourism attraction.

Ouyanghai Square covers an area of 161 mu. A 11.18-meter-tall modern granite statue of the heroic Ouyang Hai pushing a horse to save a train stands majestically at the front of the square. The front of the base is inscribed with calligraphy from leaders such as He Long calling on people to learn from Comrade Ouyang Hai, while the back of the base features a brief biography of his life.

The entire square presents a grand and magnificent atmosphere, decorated with nearly a hundred varieties of flowers and trees, ornate lanterns, and exquisitely designed pavilions and terraces.

A native of Guiyang County, Hunan Province, Ouyang Hai was born on November 22, 1940, into a poor farming family in Laoyawo Village, Liantang District, Guiyang County. At the age of seven, he begged with his younger siblings around the village, and at eight, he went up the mountain to make charcoal. The hardships of life under the old society forged his sense of love and hate. After the founding of New China, he grew up strong under the care and guidance of the Party and the people. In the winter of 1958, he joined the Chinese People's Liberation Army. He served successively as a soldier, squad leader, and deputy platoon leader.
