Hunan Baoshan National Mining Park

Hunan Baoshan National Mining Park is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

The Hunan Baoshan National Mining Park (Industrial and Mining Tourism Area), with a planned area of 7.8 km² and a core scenic area covering 1.48 km², is a modern and distinctive tourism project centered around ancient and modern mining sites as its key landscapes and themed on the history and culture of mining and metallurgy. It primarily showcases the ancient and contemporary mining and excavation processes, offering visitors a novel and exciting experience, and is hailed as a new cultural tourism highlight of Hunan.

Commonly known as Baoling, the area was historically called "Dacou Mountain" and originally named Zilong. It was where Zhao Yun of the Three Kingdoms period stationed his troops during his campaign to conquer Guiyang Commandery. The site is extremely rich in mineral resources, including various non-ferrous metals such as lead, zinc, silver, gold, molybdenum, rhenium, bismuth, copper, sulfur, and iron. Since the Han Dynasty, it has been a place for official silver smelting and metal casting. The raw materials for both the world’s first farming tool (the plow invented by Shennong) and the world’s first sword (the Imperial Sword) were sourced from Baoshan.

The park (scenic area) is divided into "one core and seven zones": the Visitor Service Center, Underground Exploration Zone, Open-pit Mine Scenic Area, Mining and Metallurgy Expo Park, Zilong Training Camp Zone, Ancient Commandery Viewing Platform (Mining and Cooking Park), Mining Culture Zone, and Mineral Processing and Smelting Exhibition Zone. It features a rare large-scale open-pit mining area in China, relatively modern vertical shafts in Central-South non-ferrous mines, the world’s largest ancient copper coin-themed sculpture, and the Avenue of Wealth. Underground, visitors can find colorful malachite, crystal-clear ice-needle quartz, thrilling mine exploration experiences, and 3D movies. The numerous ancient mine tunnels left behind tell the long and storied history of mining at Baoshan over the centuries.

Transportation

Travel Routes:

1. Fly to Changsha Huanghua International Airport, take a bus to Changsha South Railway Station, then take the Wuhan-Guangzhou High-Speed Rail for 75 minutes to Chenzhou West Railway Station, and transfer to a 30-minute vehicle ride to reach the scenic area.

2. Take a bus or train to Changsha Railway Station, then choose to take a train to Chenzhou Railway Station and transfer to dedicated lines such as the Chenzhou-Guiyang Express Bus or Route 101 intercity bus directly to the scenic area; alternatively, go to the Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan Bus Station opposite Changsha Railway Station to take a bus to Chenzhou, then transfer to a 30-minute vehicle ride to reach the scenic area.

3. Fly to Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, take a bus to Guangzhou East Railway Station, then take the Wuhan-Guangzhou High-Speed Rail for 85 minutes to Chenzhou West Railway Station, and transfer to a 30-minute vehicle ride to reach the scenic area.

Self-driving Routes:

1. From Changsha: Take the Yue-Lin Expressway, exit at Liufeng/Xintian/S323/S214, then follow S323 → S214 → Cailun North Road → Longtan West Road → X070 to arrive.

2. From Chenzhou: Follow Chenzhou Avenue → Xiangyang Road → Furong Road → X070 to arrive.

3. From Guangzhou: Take the Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao Expressway → Xiamen-Chengdu Expressway, exit at Guiyang/Linwu/S214, then follow S214 → Guijia Highway → Mengquan Road to arrive.

Discounts: Half price for children between 1.3–1.5 meters tall; free for children under 1.3 meters
