Changde Lakeside Park

Lakeside Park is located in the city center of Changde, covering an area of 28.27 hectares. The park features lush trees, blooming flowers, shimmering lake waters, winding bridges, pavilions, and small terraces, all reflecting a strong water town ambiance. Notable attractions within the park include the Iron Scripture Pagoda and Song Dynasty stone tablets. The Iron Scripture Pagoda stands on a 1.42-meter-high stone pedestal, which has a cinched-waist form, with its edges carved with cloud-and-lotus patterns. The pagoda is made of white cast iron, cylindrical in shape, larger at the base and tapering toward the top, standing 4.335 meters high with a bottom diameter of 0.9 meters and weighing 1,520.8 kilograms. It mimics wooden architecture. The lower section is adorned with bas-reliefs of half-figure guardian figures and Buddha statues, as well as decorative patterns and animal motifs such as dragons and tigers. Because the scripture pagoda is cast from wrought iron—an uncommon material in China—it is extremely precious and is designated as a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit. The Song Dynasty stone tablets were originally located at the former site of Qianming Temple on Deshan Mountain and were relocated here in 1979. They serve as important materials for the study of feudal temple land systems.

Lakeside Park is the only large-scale waterscape garden in downtown Changde. Since its establishment, the government has invested over 200 million yuan in total. The park includes various cultural and landscape features such as the Dragon-Locking Stone, Three-View Pavilion, and stone arch bridges, rich in historical and cultural significance.
