A Northern Song Dynasty tomb. Located within the Municipal Forestry Science Research Institute in Hefu Town, Wuling District, Changde City. Excavated in 1976. It is a mid-Northern Song Dynasty joint burial stone-chamber tomb. The tomb had been looted and yielded few artifacts. Painted images of armored warriors remain on the tomb door panels, and two well-preserved epitaphs were unearthed. The stone epitaph of Zhang Yong stands upright at the tomb entrance, rectangular in shape, inscribed with over 2,500 characters in regular script. The epitaph states that Zhang Yong was a native of Taoyuan, passed the imperial examination, and held official positions including Transport Commissioner of Guangdong, Attendant of the Wenyuan Pavilion, Transport Commissioner of Hebei, Prefect of Ezhou, Prefect of Dingzhou, and Transport Commissioner of Hunan. He died in the first year of Yuanyou during the Northern Song Dynasty (1086). His biography is recorded in the Chenzhou Prefecture Annals of the Jiajing era of the Ming Dynasty. His deeds are also mentioned in the Wuhu County Annals of the Jiaqing era and Shen Kuo’s Record of the Wanchun Weir Map. The epitaph also documents the political and economic conditions of the mid-Northern Song Dynasty, with particularly important material on water conservancy projects and the Wang Anshi Reforms during that period. The epitaph of Zhang Yong’s wife, Lady Zhou, mainly records her background.

Hefu Town: Hefu Town in Wuling District is located on the north bank of the Yuan River, in the western suburbs of Changde City. It borders Hucheng Township of Wuling District to the east, Danzhou Township of Wuling District to the south, Guanxi Township of Dingcheng District to the north, and Zoujiang Town of Taojiang County to the west. Established as a town in 1956, it was under the jurisdiction of Chenzhou County (now Dingcheng District). In October 1995, it was placed under the administration of Wuling District. In January 1997, it was formed through the merger of the former Hefu Town and Hefu Township.
