Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon Glass Bridge

The Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon Glass Bridge is a national key cultural relics protection unit.

The Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon Glass Bridge is located within the Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon Scenic Area in Hunan Province. It claims to be the world’s longest and highest all-transparent glass bridge. The bridge spans a total length of 430 meters and is 6 meters wide, with its deck approximately 300 meters above the valley floor and a capacity of 800 people. The entire bridge deck is paved with transparent glass, and at its center stands the world’s highest bungee jumping platform. The entire project has no steel frame supports and is a fully glass-structured bridge.

The glass bridge is the world’s first cable-stayed high-mountain canyon glass bridge; it also set multiple world records including the world’s highest and longest glass bridge, and the first use of new composite materials in bridge construction.

On November 23, 2012, Haim Dotan, the designer of the Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon Glass Bridge, along with renowned Israeli architectural safety analyst Doron Shalev, conducted an on-site inspection of the bridge construction project.

On November 15, 2014, the preliminary design plan of the Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon Glass Bridge passed expert review.

In May 2015, the highly anticipated Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon Glass Bridge entered testing phases including glass load-bearing destructive tests, guardrail tensile tests, and wind tunnel tests.

By the end of July 2015, the entire glass bridge project was completed and handed over for use. At the site, the tunnel anchor concrete had been poured, the four towers at both ends of the bridge had been completed, the main saddle installation construction was underway, and the gravity anchor had finished pouring the anchor body.

Opening Hours:

Line B: 7:30–10:29, 10:30–13:29, 13:30–16:00; ticket check and bridge entry must be completed before 16:00, and visitors must enter the canyon before 16:20. Line C: 16:10–17:30.

Transportation

1. Shuttle buses from Wulingyuan (Wulingyuan to Cili), 15 km (approximately 20 minutes);

2. From Zhangjiajie, you can take a bus (from downtown to Wulingyuan), then transfer to the Line 1 bus to Cili (approximately 50 km in total);

3. From Guanghe Shopping Center in downtown Zhangjiajie, there are shuttle buses to Jiangya Hot Springs (one hour, direct route with no stops en route).
