The crystal-clear lake reflects the surrounding mountains, the water turning green from the hills and the hills appearing greener because of the water. On the cruise boats, you can enjoy performances of Tujia folk songs, which are definitely worth seeing.

Baofeng Lake is located 2 kilometers due south of Suoxi Valley Town. A few years ago, this was still a deep valley, until locals built a reservoir as deep as 72 meters in the crevices at the valley’s mouth to store water for irrigation, unintentionally creating a breathtakingly beautiful scenery.

Baofeng Lake is an artificial lake formed by damming a gorge. The lake stretches along the mountain terrain, measuring 2.5 kilometers in length and 200–1,000 meters in width, with an average depth of 72 meters. Nestled among high mountains and fed only by natural streams, the water remains largely unpolluted, resulting in exceptional clarity and transparency. Boating on the lake and visiting the exquisite, emerald-green islet in the center makes you feel as if you’re in a painting. Climbing up to the towering Eagle’s Nest Fort by the lake and looking down, Baofeng Lake resembles a piece of jade inlaid among the mountains.

There are over 20 well-known attractions around Baofeng Lake, including Baofeng Waterfall, One-Line Sky, Cloud Cliff Plank Road, Eagle’s Nest Fort, and South Sea.

Baofeng Waterfall is located at the entrance of Baofeng Lake. It cascades down from a height of 100 meters like a white silk ribbon hanging in the air, with a thunderous roar, presenting a spectacular sight.

The Cloud Cliff Plank Road is manually carved into the cliffs, connected up and down, and is extraordinarily steep and thrilling.

Eagle’s Nest Fort sits at an altitude of over 1,000 meters. Originally just a place where eagles nested, it quietly houses an exquisitely ancient Guanyin Temple. The entire temple is hidden and mysterious, making it a perfect destination for worshippers. Ticket Information · Opening Hours

Ticket: 74 RMB per person (includes boat ride). Students (under 24), military personnel, and seniors over 70 years old can enter for 40 RMB per person with valid ID.

Transportation

First take a minibus from Zhangjiajie Long-Distance Bus Station to Wulingyuan Town, which takes about 40 minutes, then take a tricycle from Wulingyuan Town to Baofeng Lake.
