Zhangjiajie Longquan Gorge

Longquan Gorge, named after the Longquan Waterfall, is also known as Qingfeng Gorge (Gentle Breeze Gorge) due to the constant cool breezes that sweep through the valley. It is located in Yejipu Village, Zhonghu Township, Wulingyuan District, within the boundaries of the Yangjiajie Nature Reserve, and is an off-limits area.

The gorge stretches approximately 3.5 kilometers in length and rises over 100 meters in height, featuring sheer cliffs along the trail, with most slopes at around 80 degrees. Within the gorge, there are “18 bends, 18 waterfalls, 18 pools, 18 bridges, and 18 perilous paths,” earning it the saying “Nine turns and ten locks — the mountains may be locked, but the water flows free.”

Towering cliffs rise on both sides of the gorge, with oddly shaped peaks in countless fantastic forms. The valley is filled with murmuring streams and cascading waterfalls. The Longquan Waterfall plunges from a cliff over 100 meters high, and at a height of 55 meters, three protruding rock walls resemble the shape of a dragon, creating a spectacular sight. The gorge also features attractions such as Princess Cave and Dragon Pool Prince, all vividly and lifelike. For these reasons, Longquan Gorge is also known as “Hunan’s No. 1 Scenic Gorge.”
