The Zhang Family Ancestral House

The Zhang Family Ancestral House is a well-preserved Ming-Qing dynasty Yi Zi Wu in the ancient city, featuring two stories and three courtyards. The exhibits mainly tell the story of how the Zhang family blended the cultures of the Dong, Han, and Miao ethnicities. The Zhangs have been merchants for generations, and the current owner, Mr. Zhang Guoying, has had family roots in Qianyang Ancient Town for many generations. The floors of the first and second courtyards of the Zhang Family Ancestral House are paved with coins, symbolizing seeking safety when going out and earning wealth when returning. On the left side are displays of Han embroidery, Dong batik, and Miao cross-stitch, while on the right are photos of Mr. Zhang with Academician Yuan Longping and famous directors and actors who came here to film movies and TV shows. Over 20 films and TV dramas have been shot at the Zhang Family Ancestral House. The third courtyard showcases the Zhang family’s values — the “Bai Ren Tang” (Hall of Hundred Patiences) is the family’s name plaque, symbolizing unity and forbearance in a large family. Several couplets on both sides reflect the Zhang family’s principles on reading, conduct, and life.
