Xiaomozhuang Courtyard

Located opposite the "Yanling Family Mansion," Xiaomozhuang was the backyard of Liu Ximao (courtesy name Yuhé), a wealthy gentry, philanthropist, and head of the Red Cross in Qiancheng during the late Qing Dynasty and early Republican period. It now houses a calligraphy and painting museum of local Dong artist Zhang Guoxiong. Born into an indigo-dyeing family in the ancient town of Tuokou, Zhang explored and applied the principles of oil-water separation and traditional folk dyeing techniques to create a new type of decorative art painting. This innovation was hailed by the renowned calligrapher Zhao Puchu as “a pioneering revival of ancient art.” His artworks blend the natural textures of craft art with the splash-ink techniques of traditional Chinese painting—grand, subtle, composed, and graceful. His works were exhibited at the Beijing Science and Technology Achievements Exhibition. He has disciples across the country, and some of his pieces are collected by overseas admirers. In 2008, the Hongjiang Municipal People's Government submitted his “Instant Brushless Painting” technique for intangible cultural heritage status at various governmental levels.

Qiancheng Town: Located in the southwestern part of Hongjiang City, Qiancheng is now the seat of the new Hongjiang municipal government and the administrative center. Qiancheng has a long history—as the county seat from the early Western Han Dynasty until 1949. In 1998, Qianyang County and Hongjiang City merged to form the new Hongjiang City, with the new municipal government based in Qiancheng. In December 2004, the new Hongjiang municipal government moved to Qiancheng, and by 2012, all departments had relocated there. Since then, Qiancheng regained its status as the county seat.
