Three Wonders of Tree Root Carvings

The large ancient camphor tree root carving in the root carving exhibition room was created by the renowned Hunan folk carver Mr. Fu Zhenyuan and his disciples over two years in the early 1980s. Weighing about one ton, with a diameter of 1.89 meters and a height of 1.54 meters, it was later honored as the “Three Wonders of Tree Root Carvings” and the “Fairyland of Hibiscus” due to its massive size, numerous character stories, and exceptional craftsmanship. The root features more than 30 folk tales and historical allusions, with over 100 figures and animals carved into it, making it the youngest cultural relic in the collection at Furong Tower.

Behind the root carving is a carved Chinese cabbage. Legend has it that when Mr. Fu was working on the piece, his wages were very low and often paid late. In response, he carved this Chinese cabbage. Upon seeing it, the director promptly improved his treatment.

Qiancheng Town: Located in the southwestern part of Hongjiang City, Qiancheng Town is now the seat of the new Hongjiang municipal government and the location of the city's administration. With a long history, Qiancheng served as the county seat from the early Western Han Dynasty until 1949. In 1998, when Qianyang County and Hongjiang City merged to form the new Hongjiang City, the government of the new Hongjiang City was headquartered in Qiancheng Town.
