Brothel (Donghaitang)

The Brothel (Donghaitang) was built in the 10th year of the Shunzhi reign during the Qing Dynasty (1653). It is a wooden mortise-and-tenon structured building with one bay and two stories, spanning three bays in width. The entire structure is rigorously built and uniquely laid out. Originally functioning as a brothel under the name “Donghaitang,” in the late Republican era it served as the residence of local dignitaries. It holds significant value for the study of the daily life in Hongjiang during earlier times. The protected area is delineated starting from the wall foundation of Donghaitang, extending 15 meters in all four directions. The construction control zone extends 20 meters outward from the boundaries of the protected area in all four directions.
