Huangmaozhou Ship Lock

The Huangmaozhou Ship Lock is a cultural relic protection unit of Hunan Province.

The Huangmaozhou Ship Lock is located in Huangmaozhou Town, Yuanjiang City, on the northern bank of the Chilei Floodway in the southern part of Dongting Lake, Hunan Province. It serves as a key hub connecting inland and external waterway transportation. The lock was completed in 1956.

The chamber has a net length of 50.0 m, and the entire structure is made of reinforced concrete. The lock chamber is a U-shaped channel, 8 m wide, with a bottom elevation of 25.5 m, connected to the embankment via a seepage-proof concrete wall, with a top elevation of 36.5 m. The gate section is 6.4 m wide, and the lock gates are 10.20 m high mitre gates, with top elevations of 36.5 m at the upper gate and 35.2 m at the lower gate. The highest navigable water level is 34.5 m.

In 2019, the Huangmaozhou Ship Lock was approved as part of the tenth batch of provincial-level cultural relic protection units in Hunan Province.

Huangmaozhou Town: The new Huangmaozhou Town was formed from the administrative areas of the former Zhicheng Township and Huangmaozhou Town. It now governs one community neighborhood committee and 50 administrative villages, covering a total area of 121 square kilometers with a population of 76,000. The town government is located in Saibozi (the former site of the Huangmaozhou Town government).
