Tujia Wind and Rain Bridge

The Lauche Reba Tujia Wind and Rain Bridge in Longshan County, western Hunan, stretches 288.8 meters in length—36.8 meters longer than the current world-record holder, the 252-meter-long Zhijiang Longjin Wind and Rain Bridge—and is the longest Tujia wind and rain bridge in China.

In the Tujia language, “Lauche Reba Tujia Wind and Rain Bridge” means “the beautiful Tujia wind and rain bridge over the Lauche River.” It connects the three ancient Tujia villages of Lauche, Liangjiazhai, and Rebala along the Lauche River. The bridge features a three-way structure in a “Y” shape; the upper part is made of wood while the lower part is reinforced concrete. At 41.1 meters longer than the 246.7-meter-long Zhijiang Longjin Wind and Rain Bridge—the previous record holder—it fully preserves the distinctive features and architectural elements of Tujia wind and rain bridges.
