5000 Lavender Fields Dye the Mountains Purple – Nantou’s Golden Dragon Mountain Creates the Most Beautiful Lavender Farm

No need to travel all the way to Hokkaido anymore—now you can admire vast lavender fields right here in Taiwan too！Located in Yuchi Township, Nantou County, Golden Dragon Mountain is not only one of the best spots for sunrise viewing at mid to low altitudes, but the Yuchi Township Office has also taken advantage of the local climate and geography to plant 5,000 lavender plants. They are expected to bloom beautifully in the near future, transforming Golden Dragon Mountain into a lavender forest kingdom！

The typical blooming period for lavender is from June to August. As a sun-loving, semi-heat-tolerant plant, it must grow in environments that are warm in winter, cool in summer, with ample sunlight and good ventilation. After evaluation by the Yuchi Township Office, the terrain and climate conditions of Golden Dragon Mountain were found suitable for cultivation. Therefore, around 5,000 lavender plants were planted starting in January this year, creating an expansive field of lavender on the mountainside.

The Yuchi Township Office stated that the lavender is currently growing well and has begun to form buds. It is estimated that the optimal blooming period will be reached in another 10 to 15 days. Once the flowers are in full bloom, visitors will be able to see light purple lavender painting the green mountains in dreamy hues, making it another excellent destination for in-depth travel around Sun Moon Lake.

In view of public interest and expectations for the development of Golden Dragon Mountain, Township Chief Chen has applied to the Sun Moon Lake Scenic Area Administration for a NT$40 million construction and planning project. The proposal is currently in the mid-stage evaluation process, and after completing the evaluation procedures, the tendering process will begin. The goal is to establish Golden Dragon Mountain as another top destination for in-depth tourism around Sun Moon Lake.
