In Taiwan’s photography community, there are three sacred spots for capturing sunrise and sunset: “North Getou, Central Wucheng, and South Erliao.” Among them, “Central Wucheng” refers to Golden Dragon Mountain, located between Sun Moon Lake and Puli in Nantou. The undulating hilly terrain and abundant moisture often shroud the area in thick fog. Not only is the early morning light breathtaking, but the ethereal glow of city lights at night, veiled in mist, is equally astonishing—so much so that it has drawn countless photography enthusiasts eager to capture the stunning scenery.

Golden Dragon Mountain is a small hill located beside County Highway 131. Though not particularly high in elevation, it offers an exceptional vantage point. On clear days, you can take in the entire Yuchi Basin, as well as the views of the Hehuan Mountains and Sun Moon Lake—truly a feast for the eyes. The most famous spectacle here is the sunrise over the sea of clouds, known as the “Golden Dragon Dawn.” As the sun rises, its brilliant rays shine upon the rolling clouds, creating a truly mesmerizing scene. Additionally, during spring and summer nights, when looking down from the mountain, a thin mist often hovers above the city below. This mist tints the vibrant city lights with various candy-like hues, resulting in Golden Dragon Mountain’s dreamy “glass-light” phenomenon—a surreal spectacle that contrasts beautifully with the morning glow.
