Longshan Temple’s Century-Old Popular Ice Shop – The Eight-Treasure Ice Is Piled High with Toppings!

Every time I visit Longshan Temple to pray, I head to Guangzhou Street nearby for food, and I always make a stop at 【Longdu Bing – The Professional House】, which has been open since 1920. It’s a beloved classic ice shop well-known to locals in Taipei. Their winter sweet soups are also very popular. The shop uses generous, high-quality ingredients and has great flavors, which is how it has thrived for a century. The movie Monga was also filmed here, so these old shops are also witnesses to a century of Monga’s charm.

Longdu Bing’s signature dish is the Eight-Treasure Ice. The shop boils a wide variety of toppings, all with excellent textures. Whether it’s grass jelly, taro balls, pudding, aloe vera, konjac, or pearl tapioca… every single one is chewy and delicious.

My personal favorites are taro and peanuts. The taro is soft and fluffy, an absolute crowd-pleaser and a favorite among many foodies.

The peanuts have a fragrant, fluffy elasticity – they might be mixed with sugar syrup because they have a sweet honey-like taste. Paired with shaved ice, it’s super satisfying.

Especially worth recommending are the winter-limited sweet soups, and the peanut soup is simply divine. The smooth peanut texture is not just soft but also has a bit of bounce. Not only is the texture great, but the aroma is rich too. It’s sweet without being cloying, and drinking it hot gives a feeling of pure happiness. You can also pair it with youtiao (Chinese fried dough), so every winter, I often go all the way with my foodie group friends to Longdu Bing. The shop also offers a variety of freshly blended juices, and the papaya milk is highly recommended.
