Taohua Mountain Natural Scenic Area

Located 26 kilometers east of Shishou City, it lies at the heart of famous scenic spots such as the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River, the Ancient City of Jingzhou, Yueyang Tower, and Wulingyuan. It is the only mountain range at the junction of the Dongting Lake Plain and the Jianghan Plain. Situated 90 kilometers from Yueyang, it is a comprehensive scenic area integrating sightseeing, tourism, conferences, leisure, and vacation. Opened to the public in 1997.

The overall planned area of Taohua Mountain spans 100 square kilometers. Majestically situated along the southern bank of the Yangtze River, it stretches across Hunan and Hubei provinces, extending 45 li in length, with over 280 peaks of varying sizes, the highest being Tunyanshi Mountain at an elevation of 368 meters. The area features predominantly natural landscapes complemented by cultural attractions. It boasts vast lakes, integrated landscapes of mountains and waters, superior natural surroundings, and abundant historical and cultural relics. Since its development, the scenic area has been positioned as a destination for “returning to nature and leisure vacations.” Significant achievements have been made in environmental construction, continuously enhancing its tourism functions. With conservation as a priority during development, the area highlights natural ecology and geological landscapes. Major attractions include Fu's Bamboo Garden, Immortal Cave, Red Army Tree Martyrs' Cemetery, Longquan Temple, and Yakou Reservoir.
