Wancheng

Wancheng is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Hubei Province.

Wancheng is located in Yihé Village, Libu Town, Jingzhou District, Jingzhou City, and is a city site from the Six Dynasties period. It covers an area of approximately 800,000 square meters. The site is rectangular in shape, stretching 1,000 meters from east to west and 800 meters from north to south. The western section of the northern city wall remains, built with rammed earth, with a base width of 20–30 meters, a top width of 10–20 meters, and a remaining height of about 4 meters. According to the Qing Dynasty’s Jiangling County Annals, Wancheng, anciently known as Fangcheng, was built during the Three Kingdoms period under the Eastern Wu regime. During the Eastern Jin Dynasty, it served as the headquarters of the Southern Barbarian Commandant. In the Southern Song Dynasty, Zhao Kui, son of Zhao Fang, the military commissioner of Jinghu, defended Fangcheng but renamed it Wancheng to avoid using his father’s given name.

Libu Town: Libu Town borders Taihu Port Farm to the north, neighbors Yichang City to the west, faces the Yangtze River to the south, and lies adjacent to the central urban area of Jingzhou City to the east. The town government is located 6 kilometers west of Jingzhou City. The town administers 20 administrative villages, 2 garden sub-farms, 1 neighborhood committee, and 100 villager groups, with a population consisting of Han and Hui ethnic groups. The total population of the town is 31,667, and the cultivated land area is 33,116 mu. The main produce includes vegetables and cotton. The “Jingzhou District Ten-Kilometer Green Pollution-Free Vegetable Corridor” has been established here.
