Miaodigou Site

The Miaodigou Site is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The Miaodigou Site is located on the southern bank of Qinglongzhang, 3 kilometers southwest of Sanmenxia City in Henan Province, and is a Neolithic site.

The site's cultural layers are divided into two phases. Phase I (lower layer) consists of Yangshao culture remains, named the Miaodigou type of Yangshao culture. Phase II (upper layer) remains are transitional between the Yangshao and Longshan cultures, named the Miaodigou Phase II Culture. It evolved from the Yangshao culture and later developed into the Longshan culture of Henan. Over a thousand pottery artifacts from the Yangshao and Longshan cultures have been unearthed, causing a sensation in the Chinese archaeological community.

The discovery of the Miaodigou Site resolved the chronological classification of the Yangshao and Longshan cultures, and more importantly, clarified the relationship between them. This proves that the ancestors of the Chinese nation continuously developed and created a highly advanced civilization in the Yellow River basin from ancient times through the Yangshao and Longshan cultures up to the Shang and Zhou dynasties, providing important physical evidence for the study of the development of ancient Chinese culture.
