The Cliff Carvings on Poshan Mountain are a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Henan Province.

The cliff carvings on Poshan Mountain are located on Poshan Mountain in Pangzhuang Village, Xianghe Township, Biyang County, meeting the requirements of caves from the Northern Wei to Sui periods that favored “dwelling in mountain caves.” The cliff carvings are situated on the northern slope of Poshan Mountain, which is part of the remaining ranges of the Funiu Mountain system. To the north lies Fogou, home to the Fogou Stream. It is five kilometers east of Xianghe Town, where the Bixu Highway passes through the town, and two kilometers west of the border of Fangcheng County, with a flat expanse in the mountain pass of Xianghe Pass two and a half kilometers to the east, and Wufeng Mountain of the Tongbai Mountain range fifteen kilometers to the northeast. It is a provincial-level cultural heritage site.

Embodying the landscape character of the Funiu Mountain system, Poshan Mountain boasts unique scenery, rugged rocks resembling crouching oxen, prowling beasts, fighting cocks, and pavilions. The streams remain clear year-round, while pines, cypresses, and shrubs thrive, making it a paradise for wildlife. The carving site consists of carved stone statues, pre-cave ruins, and a meditation hermitage. There are over 90 Buddha, Bodhisattva, Arhat, Guardian, and figure carvings distributed across four standing stones, with the majority found on Stone No. 1 and Stone No. 2. The themes include the Buddhas of the Three Ages, Multi-armed Guanyin, niches of aligned figures, preaching scenes, and jataka tales. Most niches are oval-shaped, with traces of pre-cave structural halls and corridors. About seven meters below the cliff is a meditation hermitage surrounded by scattered plain bricks and tiles. Judging from its environment, style, and content, the carvings exhibit distinct Northern Dynasties and Sui-Tang characteristics. The Poshan Mountain cliff carvings are uniquely and elegantly situated, date back early, are well-preserved, and feature a large number of carvings. Their geographical location lies at the intersection of northern and southern Chinese Buddhist traditions. Their discovery, preservation, and study are of great significance to history, Buddhism, cliff carving art, and the research on similarities and differences in the development of Buddhism in northern and southern China. Additionally, the uniquely beautiful natural landscape enhances the cultural ambiance of local tourism.
