The Taiziling Site in Biyang

The Taiziling Site in Biyang is a protected cultural heritage site of Henan Province.

The Taiziling Site is situated 1.5 kilometers northwest of Laohé Village in Biyang County. It is shaped like a north-south "人" (human) character, covering a total area of approximately 21,000 square meters. To the east of the site lies the Loess Ridge, while to the west and north there is an ancient silt riverbed. The river flows from the southwest to the northeast, circling half of the site before entering the Wǔ River. The site features rich cultural layers, with up to 158 artifacts unearthed per square meter. Collected samples include stone axes, adzes, chisels, grinding tools, arrowheads, pottery spinning whorls, tripod leg fragments, pottery bowls, painted pottery shards, animal teeth, and animal bones. The site is called Taiziling (Prince’s Ridge) because, according to legend, a queen from a past dynasty committed a crime and fled here with a prince. After the prince died, he was buried here, which gave the site its name. It is a site belonging to the Longshan Culture.
