The Dagang Site is a protected cultural heritage site of Henan Province.

The Dagang Site is situated on a platform two to three meters above the ground, north of Dagang Village in Houji Township, covering a total area of 8,000 square meters. From autumn 1988 to spring 1989, the Henan Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology and the Wuyang County Museum jointly carried out excavations over two seasons, discovering a range of remains and relics from the Peiligang Culture period, as well as scrapers and microliths from the Paleolithic era. This was the first time in the Central Plains region that stratified layers from both the Paleolithic and Neolithic periods were found in superposition. Notably, a well seven meters deep and one point two meters in diameter was uncovered here, proving that our ancestors had begun using well water as early as eight to nine thousand years ago. This represents the earliest known evidence of humans drinking water from wells.
