Wuyang County Museum

The Wuyang County Museum was established in 1984. It is located within the ancient architectural complex of Chenghuang Temple and Kaiyuan Temple, responsible for the protection, collection, management, promotion, and exhibition of cultural relics across the county. In its early days, it was known as Wuyang Chenghuang Temple.

There are two main permanent exhibitions: the "Wuyang Party History Exhibition" and the "Wuyang Han Dynasty Stone Reliefs Exhibition." In addition, more than 20 various stone epitaphs collected from across the county are displayed on the walls of the courtyard.

The "Wuyang Party History Exhibition" is housed in the newly renovated main hall of Kaiyuan Temple, covering an exhibition area of 300 square meters. The exhibition presents over 20 display panels, featuring detailed textual materials and a collection of precious historical photographs. These illustrate the development and struggles of the Party organization in our county through various historical periods from 1926 to the founding of the People’s Republic of China, recreating the glorious journey of revolutionary martyrs who fought bravely and made successive sacrifices.

The "Wuyang Han Dynasty Stone Reliefs Exhibition" is displayed in the worship hall of Chenghuang Temple. The exhibition space covers 150 square meters and mainly showcases Han Dynasty stone reliefs unearthed in Wuyang. The subjects of these reliefs include “Four Divine Beasts Patterns,” “Archer and Crossbowman,” “Dragon Devouring Fish,” “Gatekeepers Holding Shields and Brooms,” “Beast Fighting,” and aquatic animal motifs. These works are made of high-quality materials with lifelike carvings, reflecting the ingenuity of anonymous master artisans from the Han Dynasty.

Collection of Cultural Relics

Since its establishment, the museum has continuously enriched its collection through over a decade of acquisition efforts. It now houses more than 900 cultural relics rated at level three or above, including categories such as stone, pottery, bone, porcelain, bronze ware, bronze mirrors, Buddhist statues, pictorial stones, bricks, currency, calligraphy, and paintings.

The Wuyang County Museum is situated within Kaiyuan Temple, an ancient architectural complex characterized by Yuan and Ming dynasty styles, with over 50 existing halls. Key structures include the worship hall, Weiling Hall, and bedroom palace.

Honors and Awards

In December 2020, it was designated as a National Third-Class Museum in the fourth round of evaluations.
