Hejiachong Tourist Scenic Area is a classic red tourism destination.
Hejiachong is located in the Dabie Mountain area at the border of Henan and Hubei provinces. It lies 35 kilometers west of Xinyang City, 130 kilometers south of Wuhan City, and 340 kilometers north of Zhengzhou City. A tourist highway connects it to Mount Jiugong, and the opened Beijing-Zhuhai Expressway runs around the area. Hejiachong is an administrative village under Tiebu Township in Luoshan County, covering an area of 20 square kilometers, with a current population of 1,200. The scenic area is surrounded by mountains on the east, north, and south, and is 8.6 kilometers from the Lingshan exit of the Beijing-Zhuhai Expressway, 40 kilometers from Luoshan County, and 2 kilometers from the seat of Tiebu Township government. It lies on the same tourism route as the provincial-level scenic spot, the national-level Xinyang Jiugong Mountain Scenic Area, and the county seat of Xin County—the former revolutionary capital of the Hubei-Henan-Anhui region.
Red tourism sites connected to Hejiachong include the former headquarters of the 28th Red Army—Qingpeng, the battle site of the 25th Red Army in Pengxindian—Longchi, the site of the Lingshan Conference—Lingshan Temple and Liantang. In addition, Hejiachong also features sites such as the former site of the Soviet Government, the “Hejiachong August 1st Hope Primary School” personally inscribed by Comrade [name redacted], the battle site of the 25th Red Army at Changlinggang, General Stone, and the Red Army Cave.

Hejiachong is a land steeped in revolutionary history. As early as 1926, the Chinese Communist Party established a farmers’ association here. In 1929, a Red Guards unit was formed. In 1932, the Fourth Front Army of the Red Army withdrew westward from here, while the 25th Red Army and the Northeast Hubei Provincial Committee continued the struggle here. On November 16, 1934, the 25th Red Army of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army set out on the Long March from Hejiachong. During the three-year guerrilla war, Hejiachong served as the headquarters and hospital base of the 25th Red Army. During the War of Resistance against Japan, Hejiachong became part of the anti-Japanese base area in the Henan-Hubei border region. In 1996, Hejiachong was approved by the State Council as a national key cultural relics protection unit. In 1997, it was designated as a Henan Provincial Patriotic Education Base. Hejiachong has become an important revolutionary historical memorial site.
