Duanmin Yuan’s Ancestral Hall is located on the north side of Datong Street in the city (now the site of the county-). It was built by imperial decree of Emperor Tongzhi of the Qing Dynasty in honor of Yuan Jiasan, the Granary Transport Commissioner. Covering an area of 6,600 square meters, the main gate originally bore a plaque inscribed “Duanmin Yuan’s Ancestral Hall,” flanked by tall stone lions. Thirty-seven stone engravings of Yue Fei’s calligraphy of the “Memorial Before and After Setting Out on Campaign” were embedded in the west wall of the courtyard. The eastern section of the courtyard has a three-room main hall, in front of which lies a square pond approximately 33 square meters in size. The pond is adorned with a rockery built from Taihu stones, and to the south of the pond stands the SONGCUI Pavilion. There are also three formal halls, with a one-meter-high platform erected in the center, featuring a flush-gable roof covered with gray tubular tiles. The eaves are decorated with painted crossbeams and bracket sets. In front of the platform stands a stone stele erected in the second year of the Guangxu reign of the Qing Dynasty (1876) by Cui Qiangui, a former subordinate of Yuan. During the “0” period, most of the original structures were demolished, and today only the three formal halls and one stone stele remain within the compound of the county-. In 1988, it was listed as a county-level cultural relics protection unit.
