Site of Mobi Shop Ruins The Site of Mobi Shop Ruins is located to the north of Mobi Shop Village in Dalian Township, southeast of the county town, 0.5 kilometers south of the Xincai River. Locals also call it “Huang Chao’s Stronghold.” According to the Biography of Zhao Chou in the New Book of Tang: In the third year of the Zhonghe era (883 AD) during the reign of Emperor Xizong of Tang, Huang Chao and Qin Zongquan joined forces with hundreds of thousands of troops, dug five concentric trenches totaling a hundred li in circumference, and besieged Chen for three hundred days. Legend has it that ancient armies used to signal their rendezvous by “waving flags” (“磨旗”). Based on the village’s name and local folklore, this site is believed to have been the military camp where Huang Chao raised his banner to besiege Chen, as well as the meeting point where Huang Chao and Qin Zongquan combined their forces.

The ruins form a raised terrace where the Temple of the Eastern Peak once stood but has since been leveled. The current terrace is 1 meter high, covering an area of 540 square meters, with a cultural layer about 3 meters deep. Artifacts unearthed include painted red pottery, flat tripod feet, duck-billed tripod feet, and pottery shards from the Dawenkou Culture period; lidded jars, flat-bottomed bowls, and shallow plate tripods from the Longshan Culture period; as well as pottery shards from the Shang and Zhou dynasties. This is a stratified site featuring the cultures of Dawenkou, Longshan, Shang, and Zhou. It was designated as a county-level cultural relics protection unit in 1988.
