Guling Ruins is a cultural heritage site protected by Henan Province.

Guling Ruins

Guling is located 12.5 kilometers northwest of the county seat, in Liulin. According to research, the ancient city of Guling was submerged by the Yellow River after the Song Dynasty. In 1958, when locals were digging a well, pottery jars were discovered at a depth of 7 meters, along with a mulberry tree with a diameter of about 0.7 meters and a height of approximately 2 meters. This is sufficient evidence that there are still relics to be explored beneath seven meters.

Historical records from “Records of the Grand Historian: Biography of Xiang Yu” state: “When they reached Guling, the troops of Xin and Yue did not arrive.” The “Book of Han: Annals of Emperor Gaozu” records: “In the winter of the fifth year, in October, the Han King pursued Xiang Yu to the south of Yangxia, where the army halted. They had agreed to join forces with the King of Qi, Xin, and the Chancellor of Wei, Yue, to attack the Chu forces, but they did not arrive at Guling.” The “Yuanhe Maps and Records of Prefectures and Counties” states: “After Xiang Yu was defeated, he fled south to Guling — this place.” Archaeological evidence confirms that the area of Liulin in the northwest of present-day Huaiyang County was Guling during the Qin and Han dynasties. The ancient city measured 1,200 meters in length and 240 meters in width, divided into three fortified settlements: southern, central, and northern, each with its own gate. Near Liulin lies Guling Gully. This site is the ancient battlefield of the historically famous “Battle of Guling.”

Qilao Township: Qilao Township is located 15 kilometers northwest of the Huaiyang County seat, bordering Xihua County to the west and Taikang County to the north. It is the source of the Heihe and Caihe rivers, with the Old Canal, New Canal, and Zhou-Shang-Yong Canal passing through the area. To the east is National Highway 106, to the west it connects with the A-Shen Expressway, and to the south it links with the Zhou-Shang Expressway. The Luo-Shuang Highway and Zhu-Ban Highway run east-west, and all villages are connected by paved roads, making transportation very convenient.
