Xishuangzhong

Xishuangzhong is located about 500 meters south of Wanlaozhuang in Zhengji Township, west of the county town. The 1916 (5th year of the Republic of China) edition of the Huaiyang County Annals records: “One lies to the west of the city, over ten feet high, consisting of only one mound. It is unclear why it is known as the 'Twin Mounds.'” In November 1983, when local residents were digging earth, another mound was discovered to the south of the first, confirming the name "Twin Mounds." During a joint investigation and cleanup by district and county authorities, the northern mound was found to be a small brick-vaulted tomb that had been robbed in earlier times, yielding only two Han Dynasty urns and one jar. The southern mound covers an area of about 50 square meters and stands about 1 meter above ground level. In 1988, it was designated as a county-level cultural heritage protection unit.
