The Cemetery of Fan Wuzi

The Cemetery of Fan Wuzi is located to the west of Laofanzhuang in Gaomatou Town, Fan County, Henan Province. It is a municipal-level key cultural relics protection unit centered around the tomb of Fan Wuzi (Shi Hui), the founding ancestor of the Fan clan, covering an area of 36.8 mu. With strong support from Fan clan descendants both at home and abroad, the foundation-laying ceremony of the cemetery was grandly held on April 1, 2015 (the 13th day of the second lunar month in the year of Yiwei) in Laofanzhuang, Gaomatou Town, Fan County.

The construction of the Cemetery of Fan Wuzi (Shi Hui) received strong support from the Fan County Party Committee and County Government. The land for the cemetery was approved by the Fan County People’s Government in October 2011 for the purpose of building this cemetery. During the foundation-laying period, all four levels of the Fan County leadership attended the series of celebratory events, and over 500 Fan clan descendants from both home and abroad participated in the foundation-laying ceremony. The construction of the Cemetery of Fan Wuzi, the founding ancestor of the Fan clan, is not only the shared aspiration of Fan clan descendants around the world, but also a way to inherit and promote the spirit of concern for the state and the people embodied by Fan Zhongyan.

The significance of constructing the Cemetery of Fan Wuzi can be described as follows: “The Fan clan has a long and profound history. Its values of upholding virtuous governance, respecting national policies, cherishing kinship and family unity, loving the country and home, and prioritizing concern for the nation before personal comfort have become an inherent national spirit and an excellent political and cultural heritage deeply rooted in the Chinese nation. Today, the construction of the Cemetery of Fan Wuzi (Shi Hui) holds great historical significance. It plays an irreplaceable role in inspiring future generations, inheriting the history and civilization of the Chinese nation, and promoting the virtues of clan culture.”
