The Yimeng Mountain Revolutionary Base Scenic Area is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

The Yimeng Mountain Revolutionary Base was one of China’s four major revolutionary bases, located in Wangzhuang, Xiawei Town, Yishui County, Shandong Province. It served as the predecessor of the Shandong Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, the former site of the Su-Lu-Yu-Wan Border Region Provincial Committee, where the CPC Shandong Sub-bureau was established, and where the Shandong edition of the CPC newspaper “Masses Daily” was first published. The Eighth Route Army’s Shandong Column was also founded here. The original command post of the Menglianggu Campaign, led by Chen Yi and Su Yu, is situated within the scenic area. The Saint Mary’s Church on the Sacred Mountain, a well-preserved Gothic-style Catholic church built during the Qing Dynasty and still standing after over a century, is also located here. This area is additionally recognized as the earliest origin of German large cherries in China. From mid-May to June each year, the scenic area hosts a grand cherry-picking festival covering tens of thousands of acres. It is not only a sacred site of China’s red tourism but also a typical representative of green Yimeng culture. This is the birthplace of the “Yimeng Song,” which embodies the spirit of the “Mother-in-Law of Yimeng.” It serves as a national defense education base, a summer camp reception center for revolutionary old areas, a patriotic education base, a social practice base, and one of China’s Top 100 Red Tourism Areas.

The scenic area stretches approximately 12.7 kilometers from north to south and 5.7 kilometers from east to west, covering a total area of 32.6 square kilometers. As one of the nation’s four most famous revolutionary bases, the Yimeng Mountain Revolutionary Base functioned as the party, government, and military command center, often referred to as the “Yan’an of East China.” It is a revolutionary holy land from the founding period of the CPC and the military in Shandong Province. In the history of the revolutionary struggle, this period is known as the “Wangzhuang Era.” Veteran proletarian revolutionaries such as [names redacted], Luo Ronghuan, [names redacted], Chen Yi, and Su Yu worked and fought here.
