The Snow Lotus Grand Theatre is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

The Dongying Snow Lotus Grand Theatre is one of the largest theatres in Shandong Province. Its design is inspired by the highland snow lotus, echoing the snow lotus flowers of the Bayan Har Mountains at the source of the Yellow River. This design bridges the temporal and spatial distance between the headwaters and the lower reaches of the Yellow River, expressing a memory and continuation of natural, historical, and cultural heritage. With its prime location and elegant snow lotus form, the theatre has become one of the most iconic and captivating buildings in the Yellow River Basin. It serves as an important venue for promoting high art, enhancing public cultural literacy, advancing domestic and international cultural exchanges, and integrating Dongying with the global cultural stage.

The Snow Lotus Grand Theatre is one of the enterprises under the management of the Dongying Cultural Tourism and Sports Development Group. It officially opened in September 2014 with a total investment of 1 billion yuan. The theatre covers a land area of 29.724 hectares, with a total construction area of 45,094 square meters. It stretches approximately 560 meters from east to west and 530 meters from north to south, with a building height of 46.25 meters. The main structure consists of one floor with partial six-story sections. The auditorium has 1,340 seats, while the multifunctional hall accommodates about 400 seats. It is capable of hosting a variety of performances, including large-scale operas, dance dramas, ballets, symphonies, and comprehensive theatrical shows. In addition, it provides services such as rehearsal spaces and meeting facilities for performing troupes, as well as dining, entertainment, and sightseeing options for audiences and tourists.

In the nearly five years since its opening, the Snow Lotus Grand Theatre has prioritized social benefits. Supported by the resilient, aspirational, and incorruptible “Snow Lotus Spirit,” it has successfully overcome the operational challenges faced by similar theatres in third- and fourth-tier cities across China. The theatre has forged an independent operational path of “bringing in, going out, and bringing to life.” It not only introduces world-class and top-tier domestic performances to Dongying—allowing residents to enjoy operas, dance dramas, and symphonies close to home—but also produces its own intellectual property-based “Snow Lotus” series of original productions. These have helped Dongying’s cultural products reach beyond the city and gain national recognition. By achieving both social and economic success, the theatre has effectively served to guide public values, educate citizens, benefit society, and drive development. It has become a model and leader among municipal-level theatre operations in Shandong Province and even across China.
