Make the most of autumn camping – Taipei’s Guizikeng Camping Site closing soon for renovation

Autumn is here—cool days are perfect for outdoor camping and picnics. Operated by the Taipei City Government, the Bishan Camping Site and Guizikeng Camping Site are not only located within the urban districts of Neihu and Beitou, but also offer free camping without site fees. Visitors can easily enjoy the autumn atmosphere during weekends.

Guizikeng Camping Site
Address: No. 161, Xiushan Road, Beitou District, Taipei City

Located in Beitou, Guizikeng is a small valley featuring unique geological landscapes and ancient strata of the Wuzhi Mountain Formation. The camping site is divided into two main areas: the “camper van zone” and the “grass pitch zone.” The camper van zone offers 12 parking spaces, while the grassy area spans approximately 500 square meters, accommodating six 4-person tents. It also provides a low-voltage power system and movable picnic platforms. The grass pitch zone has 15 camping platforms suitable for 4–6 people, along with 25 clean and bright bathroom facilities, so you can take a comfortable hot shower after a full day of activities before sleeping soundly.

Bishan Camping Site

Located in Neihu District, Taipei City, the Bishan Camping Site can accommodate about 250 people. The park is divided into three zones: the forest trail area, camping area, and recreational activity area. It features themed sections based on the 12 zodiac signs: the Air Signs Zone, Fire Signs Zone, Water Signs Zone, and Earth Signs Zone. The site also includes Taiwan’s first-ever “double-decker” camping spaces, offering better views and attracting many visitors eager to try them out. The wooden boardwalk and sleeper boardwalk in the forest trail area stretch around 1 kilometer and are available for public use without the need for prior reservations.

Although these are public and free campsites, the facilities are well-equipped, including clean bathrooms and reliable hot water supply—making them perfect for a relaxing weekend getaway. Visitors are advised to plan ahead and make reservations in advance. If fewer than 20 people reserve a day, the site may remain closed. Furthermore, due to high electricity consumption by visitors, the city government plans to introduce a pay-per-use electricity policy. Starting next year, campers will need to use electricity cards. The Guizikeng Camping Site is set to begin construction in mid-November and will stop accepting rentals starting October 11. Those wanting to camp this fall should take advantage of this final chance.
