Fuyang Ecological and Cultural Park is a national water conservancy scenic area.

Fuyang Ecological and Cultural Park is located near Ganma Bridge in Hengshui City. This park is a public welfare project approved by the Hengshui Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government. It functions as a central venue for cultural, recreational, and leisure activities for the public, and holds great significance in improving the living environment, improving urban infrastructure, elevating cultural taste, and boosting the cultural industry. The construction mainly includes a comprehensive cultural center building housing a museum, library, theater, and convention and exhibition center, as well as public cultural facilities such as the park square and an observation TV tower.

Upon entering Fuyang Ecological and Cultural Park, you’ll first come across Jiuzhou Square. Along the central axis of the square, nine bronze relief sculptures are arranged from north to south, clearly depicting the development and evolution of rivers, lakes, feudal states, counties, ancient towns, renowned cities, and cultural landmarks within the Hengshui region through eight different historical periods—from the division of the Nine Provinces by Yu the Great, through the Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties, up to the modern era. Walking past these exquisite bronze carvings is like traveling through a 5,000-year-long river of history, offering a panoramic view of Hengshui’s developmental trajectory and glorious past. Further south, you’ll be greeted by the majestic “Dragon Soaring Over Fuyang” sculpture. It features a soaring dragon, composed of four parts: the dragon figure, stone base, pool, and fountain. The dragon sculpture stands 19.96 meters tall, symbolizing the year 1996 when Hengshui was upgraded from a prefecture to a city; it is 20.12 meters wide, signifying the year 2012 when the sculpture was completed. The wavy stone base has a circumference of 40.2 meters, representing the total length of the Fuyang River at 402 kilometers; its east-west length of 16.3 meters indicates that the river flows through 163 kilometers of Hengshui territory. The circular pool surrounded by fountains covers an area of 881.5 square meters, symbolizing Hengshui’s total area of 8,815 square kilometers. The entire sculpture weighs 44 tons, representing the 4.4 million industrious and intelligent people of Hengshui. The sculpture resembles a dragon leaping out of the water, with its head facing east along the flow of the river, symbolizing Hengshui’s gathering momentum for takeoff and a brighter future ahead.

To the southeast of Fuyang Ecological and Cultural Park lies the Celebrity Square. Standing on the bank of the Fuyang River and looking north, you’ll see ten historical celebrity pillars arranged in two rows, east and west. Each pillar is 13.8 meters tall, with a body diameter of 1.8 meters and a base diameter of 2 meters—truly a spectacular sight. These pillars incorporate unique local art forms such as paper-cutting, New Year paintings, inner-painted art, and carving, vividly showcasing 20 notable figures from different eras and fields in Hengshui’s history. These include the Tang Dynasty frontier poet Gao Shi, the Western Han Dynasty philosopher and litterateur Dong Zhongshu, the renowned anti-Japanese hero Jie Zhenguo, Wang Yukun—who was hailed by Chairman Mao as “the direction for 500 million farmers nationwide”—Geng Changsuo, who established the nation’s first land partnership group, Ma Wanshui, an outstanding representative of China’s working class, and former state leader Wang Renzhong, among others. At night, the celebrity pillars are illuminated brilliantly, shining brightly and showcasing the vibrant spirit and enduring legacy of this “land of great Confucian scholars,” a place known for nurturing exceptional talent throughout the ages.

As night falls, colorful and flickering ground lights between the celebrity pillars form a dynamic and modern array. At the northern end, there is a fountain on each side of the east and west, dancing to the rhythm of music—sometimes graceful and charming, sometimes powerful and awe-inspiring—like performers on the lake, interpreting the soul of water with full vitality. At the southern end of the ground light array lies the waterside platform area, where citizens can enjoy large-scale water screen movies on Fuyang Lake. The water screen is fan-shaped, with a radius of about 30 meters. Exciting films are projected onto it, creating a dreamlike aquatic spectacle.

The Fuyang River is the mother river of Hengshui. Flowing into the city from the southwest, it meets the Wugong River—which connects southward to Hengshui Lake—at a bow-shaped bend, forming the expansive Fuyang Lake. This creates an urban water system junction that runs east-west and connects north-south. Fuyang Ecological and Cultural Park is situated on the north side of this bow-shaped bend. From a distance, it appears as if embraced by the Fuyang River, presenting a beautiful and magnificent sight.
