Ningshan

Ningshan (to Jingshan) is located within Fushan Town, Ningyang County. According to the revised 1851 version of the *Ningyang County Annals · Mountains and Rivers* from the first year of the Xianfeng reign during the Qing Dynasty: “(This mountain) is not very tall, yet it is the main mountain of the county. The county lies to the south of the mountain, hence the name Ningyang.” Also, the 1994 edition of the *Ningyang County Annals* states: “In 200 BC (the seventh year of Emperor Gaozu of Han), Liu Bang established a commandery to the south of Ningshan, named Ningyang, which later came to be called Ningyang County.”

Ningshan is also known as Zhijing Mountain. It is situated beside the ancient north-south post road. Merchants, travelers, officials, and couriers coming from the south or the north would all rest or take a break beneath Ningshan. These visitors from all corners of the country discovered that the distances from here to both Nanjing and Beijing were exactly equal. As a result, they gave Ningshan another grand name: “Zhijing Mountain.” Gradually, the saying “From Nanjing to Beijing, Zhijing stands in the middle” became widely circulated.

Fushan Town: Fushan Town is located in the northern part of Ningyang County, covering an area of 84.3 square kilometers with a land area of hectares. It governs 83 natural villages and 59 administrative villages. By the end of 2003, the total population was 66,000, including 62,000 agricultural residents, with a population density of 783 people per square kilometer.
