Chiping Longshan Park

Longshan is the only artificial

earthen hill on the vast plains of northwestern Shandong. It was formed from the soil excavated during the digging of the Huitong River in the 15th year of the Yongle reign of the Ming Dynasty (1417) and later from the silt dredged from the river. After the liberation, the People’s Government planted numerous trees and built flower gardens on this earthen hill, turning it into “Longshan Park.”

The current earthen hill is over 5 meters high and about 2 li long. The hill is covered with lush pines and cypresses, and emerald bamboo that looks ready to drip. From a distance, it resembles a coiling, undulating green dragon with its head raised as if ready to take flight. At the ridge top

stand three classic pavilions: the Moon-Gazing Pavilion, the Mountain-Gazing Pavilion, and the Reclining Dragon Pavilion. They are equipped with stone tables and pedestals for visitors to rest. When the sun sets, climbing up to enjoy the view reveals the meeting of the Wei and Yun rivers flowing northward, bathed in radiant hues. Boats dot the rivers, and fishermen's songs echo; below the ridge, the woods are lush and the grass green as velvet; at night, looking down upon the city, thousands of sparkling lights are visible, creating a poetic and picturesque scene that is truly enchanting.
