Seedless Watermelons of Huangping
The seedless watermelons of Huangping are a specialty of Huangping County in Qiandongnan Prefecture, Guizhou Province. The "Feiyunya" brand seedless watermelons from Huangping are known for their vibrant color, delicious taste, and sweetness. They have been recognized as high-quality, green, and pollution-free agricultural products in Guizhou Province, and are in high demand.
Huangping benefits from a uniquely favorable climate with significant day-night temperature differences, which help promote the conversion of organic compounds and the accumulation of sugars. The average sugar content of local watermelons reaches 10.8%–13.5%. Due to their high sugar content, Huangping watermelons are often referred to as "honey melons."
Watermelon production in Huangping has a history of nearly 20 years of cultivation. Thanks to its higher altitude, the region is well-suited for growing late-summer mountainous watermelons. In 2006, the county’s total watermelon planting area reached 25,000 mu, with over 21,000 mu dedicated to seedless varieties. For several consecutive years, the seedless watermelon planting area has remained at around 20,000 mu. The product has developed certain regional advantages and local characteristics, occupying a significant position in the local agricultural and rural economy.
The "Feiyunya" brand registered for Huangping seedless watermelons has been awarded the title of "Guizhou High-Quality Agricultural Product," and has passed certification for pollution-free production areas and organic conversion products. In 2010, Huangping County was honored with the title of "National High-Quality Seedless Watermelon Base."
