Tomb of Chiyou

The Tomb of Chiyou is a cultural relic protection unit of Shandong Province.

The Tomb of Chiyou, also known as the Tomb of Chiyou's Shoulder and Thigh Bones, is located in Juye County, Heze City, Shandong Province. Having endured through many dynasties over the centuries, with the passage of time and shifts in the landscape, the size of the tomb mound has gradually diminished. During the Yuan and Ming dynasties, a temple was built on the mound, but after the Qing dynasty, the mound suffered repeated damage. By the time of the 1982 county-wide cultural relics survey, the mound measured 38 meters from east to west and 31 meters from north to south. In 2002, the Juye County Committee of the Communist Party of China and the People’s Government of Juye County carried out emergency restoration work on the Tomb of Chiyou. The mound was enclosed with clean-edged mushroom stones, standing 1.9 meters high with a perimeter of 81 meters. A guardrail was installed, surrounded by a circular stone path, and pine and cypress trees were planted on the mound to symbolize the long-standing heritage of the Chinese nation.
