This year, the Japan Meteorological Agency released its 2010 cherry blossom forecast, predicting that Takato Castle Site Park in Nagano Prefecture will reach full bloom on April 9th. This coincides with the Nagano Takato Cherry Blossom Festival, making it a perfect time to admire the “finest cherry blossoms under heaven” with a joyful heart.
Takato in Nagano Prefecture is a town with a 700-year history, rich in natural beauty. Takato Castle Site Park is a nationally renowned cherry blossom viewing spot, attracting around 400,000 domestic and international visitors each year. The park is famous for its over 1,500 Somei Yoshino cherry trees with smaller, reddish-hued blossoms, whose exquisite beauty has earned them the title “finest cherry blossoms under heaven.” The oldest trees in the park are over 130 years old, and when set against the majestic backdrop of the Japanese Alps, they captivate all who come to admire the blooms.
This year’s “Nagano Takato Cherry Blossom Festival” runs until early May. During the event, cherry blossom tea services will be offered, allowing visitors to enjoy tea under the 1,500 Takato pink cherry trees—an experience that’s truly one of life’s great pleasures. Admission fees during the cherry blossom season are 500 yen for adults and 200 yen for elementary and junior high school students.
