The Jiangxi Provincial Museum was established in 1953. It is the largest comprehensive museum in the province, one of the first national first-class museums, and a provincial patriotic education base. Over the past 60-plus years, the museum has moved from its old site at Bayi Square to Xinzhou Road and then to its new building on Ganjiang North Avenue. The new museum is one of the three major venues of Jiangxi Provincial Cultural Center. Designed with a cubic form as its architectural prototype, symbolizing a treasure box, it has six floors, a construction area of 86,000 square meters, and an exhibition area of 28,000 square meters.

The Jiangxi Provincial Museum houses a collection of precious historical artifacts and ancient artworks unearthed across Jiangxi, making it the museum with the most extensive collection in the province. The total number of items in the collection is approximately 58,916 (sets), including 370 first-grade cultural relics (sets), 1,063 second-grade cultural relics (sets), 9,220 third-grade cultural relics (sets), and 48,263 general cultural relics (sets).

The collections include categories such as bronzeware, ceramics, calligraphy and paintings, revolutionary relics, and miscellaneous items. Bronzes and ceramics are the most distinctive, with large quantities and high artistic value, occupying an important position among provincial museums nationwide.

Featured collections include Shang Dynasty bronzes unearthed from the Dayangzhou site in Xin Gan, lacquered woodware and proto-porcelain from Eastern Zhou Dynasty cliff tombs in Guixi, relics from Ming Dynasty princely tombs, ceramics from various dynasties, calligraphy and paintings by notable figures in Jiangxi, and revolutionary relics from Jiangxi’s modern history.

The Jiangxi Provincial Museum has established an exhibition system that combines permanent and temporary displays, consisting of eight permanent exhibitions and three temporary exhibition halls. It presents a comprehensive overview of Jiangxi’s grand historical narrative and cultural characteristics, meeting the diverse needs of the public in the new era with high quality.

The Jiangxi Provincial Museum is a new cultural landmark of the province. It features public information services such as intelligent guided tours, as well as functional public service areas including an academic lecture hall, educational activity rooms, and a cultural and creative product exhibition zone. It is advancing towards becoming a modern, intelligent museum with high-level cultural preservation capabilities and innovative-service strengths.
