Established in 1976 by overseas Chinese Huang Chiumao, who built it single-handedly after making his fortune in Japan, as a way to express gratitude to the country and his mother, as well as to commemorate his humble upbringing.

Including the “Chiumao Garden,” which we’re about to introduce along with other highlights like Double Treasure and Ah Mu, was once a privately-owned paid amusement park that enjoyed its heyday. After falling into decline, it was later restored by the government and reopened to the public.

The main theme here is various sculptures, including the 12 zodiac animals, wildlife, and historical or mythological figures (such as Confucius, Journey to the West characters, and the Eight Immortals Crossing the Sea… etc.). Though the statues have some age, curious kids still find them fascinating and love taking photos with them.

Ah Mu thinks this one looks just like Woody from Toy Story, haha.

There are also tree-lined paths for strolling, and if you get tired, there are pavilions where you can take a rest.

But the real reason kids—and Ah Mu—came here was for this historically unique slide. The slides here aren’t your typical plastic ones you see in regular parks. They’re super fun, super thrilling stone slides, and there are two types to try out.

Stone slides are actually especially thrilling and very fast—adults even get excited and shout. But young children should not attempt them due to safety risks.

First, the child has to climb up a tall tower—actually, it’s pretty high. Then they slide down slowly. The kids who play on it just can’t get enough.

However, it’s still advised that younger children avoid the challenge. We also remind kids not to stand up while sliding, as it’s easy to fall. Please be careful—thrills can come with hidden dangers.

After exploring “Chiumao Garden” (estimated visit time: within 1 hour), it’s highly recommended to visit the nearby famous Bai Sha Tun Mazu Temple. Most importantly, the beach behind it is great for kids to play in the sand and dip their toes in the waves.

There are lots of little hermit crabs on the beach, which really excite the twins.

Even in November, our twins had a blast getting in the water.

If you need a place to wash your feet, you can head to Gongtian Temple—thanks, Mazu.
