With “Taiwanese cuisine” as the main axis, the festival embarks on a journey to trace the roots of Taiwanese food. The event runs from October 21 to December 2, presenting the spirit of veteran head chefs through oral history, recalling the culinary heritage passed down from their fathers’ generation. Through their stories, the public can not only see the delicious dishes but also catch a glimpse of the lives of people in those eras.

The 2017 Tainan Food Festival features five major series of events, including a large-scale dining event themed around retro cuisine called “Head Chef’s Old-School Banquet,” a “CHEF Take Me There!” chef-led mini tour that introduces participants to local farms and ingredients, a “Tainan Desserts Media Recommendation Fair” gathering Tainan’s specialty dessert shops, a handbook and special book titled “Tainan Cuisine – Serving Up a Table of Taiwanese Times” documenting the delicate flavors of Tainan’s food, and a real-life game called “The Mystery Begins After the Meal.”

In addition, the chefs who have deeply rooted themselves in Tainan are artisans who give soul to food. They persevere in their own ways on the path of culinary art—whether it’s valuing the inspiration and respect for ingredients, emphasizing meticulous techniques, or joyfully innovating... All play pivotal roles in Tainan’s food lineage, continuously building upon and innovating within the traditions of Tainan cuisine. They perform traditional dishes in a contemporary way, injecting new vitality into Taiwanese cuisine and collectively making Tainan a city of gourmet food.
