The long-established hand-pulled chicken eatery “Fragrant Chicken City” is finally back in business again after a hiatus. After being absent for 20 years, the beloved hand-pulled chicken shop—known to evoke childhood memories for many—reopened in Bali, New Taipei City last August, drawing in droves of people from the 1960s and 1970s generations. Unexpectedly, the Bali location, which had been open for less than a year, had to close in February this year due to lease expiration, leaving many feeling disappointed. At the time, Fragrant Chicken City announced that it would relocate to a larger and more accessible site—and now it’s confirmed: the new home is in Xinzhuang, with a trial opening set for October 24.

Established in 1984 as Taiwan’s first hand-pulled chicken pioneer, “Fragrant Chicken City” is now managed by the third generation of the founding family. Like in the past, it insists on using only locally raised Taiwanese chickens and retains its traditional family recipe for roasting. The brand is known for slow-roasting at low temperatures over an extended period, sealing in the chicken juices and creating “hand-pulled chicken with broth,” a taste many have fondly missed. Now, in addition to the classic pepper salt seasoning, diners can also opt for a spicy sauce, and this new flavor has already sparked anticipation among online food enthusiasts.

In addition to the traditional way of eating, Fragrant Chicken City has now introduced two new serving styles: one combines fresh seasonal vegetables with hand-pulled chicken and a specially prepared dipping sauce, offering both healthiness and deliciousness. The other features hand-pulled chicken juice poured over an oil-flavored rice ball, paired with the classic hand-pulled chicken for a more filling and satisfying bite.
